On the 26th of May 4H and 3/4M did an experiment so we could see what our digestive system looked like.
For this you need:
- corn flakes
- yellow, green and red food colouring
- water
- 2 sandwich bags
- a stocking
- scissors
- plastic spoons,knives and forks
- 1/2 a banana
- a tray or container
- a plate
Step 1: Make a hole with scissors in the bottom of one sandwich bag and the stocking.
Step 2: Put the banana and the corn flakes on a plate (this is the mouth)
Step 3: Mash it up with the cutlery.
Step 4: When it’s all mushed up put the plastic bag with a hole (this is the oesophagus) into the other one (this is the stomach) .
Step 5: Add yellowed water (digestive juices)
Step 6: Seal it up then swish it around.
Step 7: Add the other coloured water (red is blood to get the nutrients and green is digestive juices) then swish it around.
Step 8: Hover the stomach over the tray and then put the stocking (small intestine) over the corner of the stomach then carefully cut a hole and let it go into the tray.
It was pretty good because first I mashed up the banana a bit then someone else did the rest. Next I held the oesophagus and later I held the container.
I think it was a great experience.
We needed more cornflakes to make it look like poo.
P.S. There was no large intestine in the experiment.
